Life; an adventure a journey with Jesus

Another "first" .....
January 8, 2010 marks the day of another “first” for us in Peru. In fact it was a first for Greg & Bridget who have been here 4 years, and for many others, including Edgar and Martin who live here! What is this all about? According to technical data on weather, Lima Peru receives zero rain annually. This particular day dawned grey, wet and bone-chilling for the Peruvians! Remember, this is January, it is summer in Peru. The paved streets were soaking, the dirt streets were muddy, slimy and slippery. Roof tops had puddles on them, and drivers had their windshield wipers going. It was RAINING! Well, to those of us from the states, we would say there was a heavy mist.

We noticed when we woke up that the ceiling in our bedroom was wet in the area surrounding the light fixture. Interesting! We are on the top floor, and there has been construction on the roof top recently, so we assume that is the reason. We looked out the windows and discovered the hustling of people on their roof tops, sweeping the puddles of water. We can only assume that they were experiencing much of the same problem, and possibly in a greater magnitude.

There was no evidence of any problems at Pat’s Place. Praise the Lord! However today we were to visit Hope House and upon arrival we found the situation there was totally different! The overnight “heavy mist” had caused roof leaks that had never been seen before. In the Bonners home, the ceiling light fixtures were filled with water and it was dripping out the lampshades, therefore they could not turn on their overhead lighting. They had 3 buckets catching the dripping water in their new apartment. The large living room in the girls’ dorm had several buckets strategically placed to catch what didn’t run off the roof, but leaked through! Each of the bedrooms had wet walls and floors. The dining room floors were being mopped by the girls, and pots and pans were spaced directly under the leaks where the heaviest dripping was occurring. All in all, I counted 16 buckets, pots, pans, and plastic tubs collecting the “heavy mist” around the complex. (Not counting the girls bedrooms)

Life continues. This too shall pass. It’s only water. Things will dry out. Everyone had a great attitude!
